About Us

Experience

Joan Blumenfeld, MS, LPC is a Professional Geriatric Care Manager and Licensed Professional Counselor. She established Eldercare Counseling and Consultation Services, LLC in 1996 after many years in private practice in the mental health field.

She is an experienced Geriatric Care Manager who advocates for the elderly and delivers compassionate, personalized care that preserves their dignity and supports their independence. She helps maintain as high a quality of life as possible for older adults and offers peace of mind to their families.

Mrs. Blumenfeld received the Special Recognition Award for her dedication and service to families and residents from the 350-bed nursing home where she volunteered for eight years. She was on the Regional Program Committee of the Alzheimer’s Association of Southwestern CT, where she facilitated Caregiver Training Courses. Currently, she and her Pet Therapy Partner, Bromley, volunteer with Connecticut Hospice.

Credentials

Mrs. Blumenfeld is a member of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers, the American Society on Aging and the American Counselors Association. She is a Professional Counselor licensed by the State of Connecticut and a Nationally Certified Counselor who has been in private practice for more than 25 years. Her focus for the past 15 years has been on caring for frail older adults and their families.

She is also an active member of Business Network International (BNI), where she has developed a large network of trusted service providers that can address the multiple needs of older clients and their families.

Workshops
Mrs. Blumenfeld presents workshops for eldercare professionals and for the community on topics related to caring for aging parents, Alzheimer’s Disease, healthy aging, and pet therapy.

Pet Therapy
Mrs. Blumenfeld and her Maltese pup, Bromley, offer Pet Therapy to clients in their homes and to groups and individuals in health care facilities. They visit frail older adults helping them focus outward and engage more fully in life. They spread unconditional love and acceptance to people in need of companionship.

Mrs. Blumenfeld brings added sensitivity and expertise to her work through extensive personal involvement in the comprehensive care management of nonagenarian relatives, including those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and mobility disorders.
